In answer to Dave Stone about the disappearance of the swans on Brooklands Lake (Letters, July 20), it may not be algae killing off the swans.
I suspect it is pollution. All the soakaway drains from Lancing industrial estate drain into that lake.
Imagine all the lorries and cars that use the estate dropping the odd bit of oil and petrol. When it rains, this drains into the lake. Imagine the pollution soaking into the drains when the council's proposed waste site is built on the estate when Halewick Lane closes, not to mention the 80 or so refuse trucks a day whizzing around the one-way loop.
No, this is not natural pollution but an underhand way for the council to close Brooklands and sell off what is a lucrative site for a property developer to seize on. I am certain Brooklands days are numbered.
