How I agree with the comments of Mr G E Howard about parking (Letters, July 13). Unless something is done quickly, the city we all love and have chosen to live in will become like many other cities, an overcrowded concrete jungle.

Is it not time the people of Brighton and Hove, not the council and Mr Prescott, have a say in how their city should be?

To this end, I would like to suggest we have a public debate through these columns.

The motion is: Brighton and Hove is full and there should be a three-to-five year moratorium on all new commercial, domestic and conversion projects until a proper and acceptable plan for the city is developed.

Some of the points that need addressing are: traffic and parking; policing; healthcare; social services and refuse collection.

Unlike some other cities, Brighton and Hove has an additional population increase from university and language students, tourists, conference delegates and entertainment facilities and night clubs.

I look forward to hearing the people's views.
