Steve Dennis outpaced Mike Coyle to score his third open win of the month in the Southborough Wheelers 25-mile time trial at Maresfield.
Dennis (East Grinstead CC) and Brighton's Coyle (VC Etoile) have been friendly rivals since Coyle won the Sussex road race championship in 1999 and denied Dennis a hat-trick of wins.
Dennis won this latest encounter in an impressive 53mins 47secs while Coyle was second in 54.22 followed by Steve Frame (Kontour Cycles) in 55.49 and Steve Geran, of GS Stella, in 55.58.
In Gear won the team event with Yates backed up by Dave Pollard (55.27) and Paul Woodman (57.38). Harry Featherstone (Eastbourne Rovers) recorded 1hr 1min 54secs to win the veterans' handicap while team-mate Libby Jones took the womens' prize in 1:07.43.
Darrell Pembroke (Free Riders CT, Surrey) won the 40km circuit race at Hove Park after staging a brilliant breakaway move with local riders Toby Leyton (Brighton Mitre) and George Higgs (Brighton Excelsior).
The trio lapped the field and Pembroke outsprinted Lwyton and Higgs at the finish.
The next riders to cross the line, a further lap behind, were Steve Ferguson (Team Maestro), Gary Wallis (Tunbridge Wells RC), Gianluca Cappella (Brighton Airways) and Alan Denman (Crawley CC).
Andy Green, the newly crowned Sussex 100-mile champion, is among the field for Brighton Excelsior's 25-mile event at Steyning on Sunday (6.30am). Other riders include Paul Byford (Crawley CC) amd Steve Woodbridge (GS Stella). The Steyning Centre will be headquarters.
