It has not taken long for Brian Berney to make an impact at East Brighton.
A county player with Berks Bucks and Oxon, Berney quickly slotted into East Brighton's Davies and Tate team on moving south and this year was runner-up in the England Seniors Championship.
Sussex welcomed him into their team which recently won the Inter County Seniors qualifier at Liphook. Now Berney has won the Sussex Veterans' championship at Piltdown.
Les Chandler, Bob Deakin and Harold Deane set the early pace.
Derek Sparrow, Roger Carrier and Lee Newbon were close behind and county captain Colin Wells posted a 76 followed by George Wadey with a fine 74.
But all were eclipsed by Berney's 71. He covered the front nine in 37 and dropped only one shot on the homeward half.
