Matt Prior smashed another century off the Kent attack yesterday but admitted he should have converted it into an even bigger score.
The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman followed his 123 against the same side a fortnight ago with 112 at Canterbury.
Despite his efforts and a valiant 70 by opener Richard Montgomerie, Sussex were bowled out for 332 in reply to Kent's 527 and face the prospect of having to follow-on with two days to go.
Prior smacked 19 boundaries and a six before he was stumped trying to hit off-spinner Min Patel out of the ground.
He said: "It was disappointing to get out when I did because I was looking to bat through to the end, but credit to Min. He did me in the flight and I missed a ball which dipped on me."
Prior has been working hard trying to eliminate the risky shots which have proved his downfall too often in the past and his dilligence is paying off.
"I've really got my head down in the nets with (director of cricket) Peter Moores. I'm an attacking player who loves to go for his shots, I don't like to leave too many balls.
"But I'm trying to play more in areas where I can control my shots.
"They set some interesting fields for me yesterday early on, but I love a challenge and it was pleasing to get through it."
