Eastbourne Borough picked up their first point in the Conference south with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Sutton United.
Borough went into the game with a defensive injury crisis but still managed to keep their hosts at bay. Stuart Tuck and Stuart Playford were both given late clearances to play despite hamstring niggles but Danny Chapman was ruled out with a similar injury.
After two minutes, Sutton's Matt Gray hit wildly over the bar and a minute later the hosts had a penalty appeal for handball against Playford turned down.
On 14 minutes, Andrew Martin got behind Borough's defence and ran on to a Lewis Gonsalves through ball but his angled shot was saved by Lee Hook.
Borough's first attempt on target came on 26 minutes when Scott Ramsay's header from a Danny Simmonds corner was cleared by Eddie Akumoah.
Then Ramsay flashed a shot just wide of Sutton keeper Phil Wilson's right hand post.
Borough had a goal disallowed three minutes into the second half when Ollie Rowland's header was ruled out for pushing.
Sutton came close to scoring when Gonsalves saw his header cleared off the line by the chest of Matt Piper and then Rowland headed the ball from under his own crossbar after Hook had parried Joff Vansittart's header.
