Heavy rain caused road chaos yesterday as the Met Office issued a severe weather warning.
Monsoon-like conditions in the afternoon reduced visibility on the A27 to 20ft.
There were more downpours across Sussex during the night.
Eastbound traffic was gridlocked and there was an accident involving three vehicles just before the Hill Barn traffic lights in Sompting.
One man was taken to hospital.
Another accident happened at the Halfway Bridge on the A272 between Midhurst and Petworth.
Three vehicles were involved but nobody was injured.
The sudden storms left roads across Sussex waterlogged.
Hurricane Alex and tropical storm Bonnie in the western Atlantic have been blamed.
They have been feeding into the UK's weather systems after devastating the west coast of the United States.
The Environment Agency said heavy rain often caused surface flooding, especially around drains.
It warned drivers to be extra-cautious and take care planning their routes.
