Bognor moved up to second in the table after three Albion youngsters shot down the Seagulls.

Chris Breach and the outstanding Dan Beck put Rocks in command with quickfire goals just before the interval after they had been second best for half an hour.

Then Ben Watson rounded things off after a sweeping move to wrap up Bognor's first home win of the season with a touch of style.

All three goalscorers, as well as busy midfielder Darren Budd, are at Nyewood Lane on short term deals from Albion so victory completed a good day coming just after news of events at Leicester.

Weston-super-Mare have the same nickname as Albion but these Seagulls were left facing a miserable trip home thanks to some typically shrewd team building from Jack Pearce.

The Bognor boss has come up with a master stroke in bringing Beck back for a second loan spell at Bognor and teaming him up with former Portsmouth striker Luke Nightingale.

Although Nightingale failed to net for the first time in six games, some of his link-up play was a delight to watch.

The fact this impressive result was achieved with perennial Rocks favourites Michael and David Birmingham, Matt Russell and David Wright absent from the starting line-up underlined the way Pearce is masterminding a gradual evolution at the club.

The pass-and-move method, though, remains the same.

Pearce said: "I'm pleased with the result and with the principles we tried to play by but I thought we didn't execute them very well in the first half.

"We did a lot better in the second half.

"Dan and Luke suit us but you've got to play to their strengths, not to their weaknesses. You've got to pass the ball to them, not pop it up in the air to them."

Nightingale was Bognor's top summer signing but Beck and Budd are both on loan from Albion while Breach and Watson are on work experience.

Pearce said: "That's the only way we can exist. We have to borrow players but, hopefully, they will learn a bit with us while they are here."

Beck is certainly relishing his non-league outings as he waits to hear whether he will receive a new contract with Albion when his current three-month deal expires at the end of September.

His pace and attacking power was shown by a run which almost brought a goal inside three minutes. As for his appetite for the game, that was evident moments from the end when he chased back 50 yards to win possession.

He said: "Jack asked about me because we had one reserve game in a month at Brighton. He said 'Come here and you'll get about eight games in a month'.

"I'm enjoying it. Brighton have had a busy week so I haven't spoken to anyone about my situation there but I would like to start knowing now because I've only got a few weeks. I'm doing well here, hopefully, I will get a chance."

Weston, who fielded former West Ham and Celtic midfielder Stuart Slater, certainly had their half-chances yesterday. The best of them saw Jonathan French shoot against the outside of the post.

The momentum changed on 41 minutes when Jodey Rowland was floored as he joined an attack down the left. Guy Rutherford whipped in a wicked free kick which flicked off a defender and was headed home at the far post by Breach.

Better followed two minutes later as Jamie Howell's corner was headed down by Kevin Murphy for Beck, with his back to goal, to control, turn and shoot home his first Bognor goal of the season.

The scoreline flattered the hosts but they dominated the second period and Watson had a shot charged down in the goalmouth before adding a super third.

Beck started the move with a neat pass to send substitute David Birmingham away down the left, his low cross was dummied by Nightingale and Watson shot left-footed into the bottom corner.
