I wholeheartedly support Cathy Clarke's views on the disgraceful demolition of the beautiful house in Preston Park Avenue, Brighton (Letters, August 16). It was my dream house from childhood too.

How do these monstrous applications get through the planning process when so many people are prevented from even changing a window or putting up a new garden fence?

It makes no sense, especially as just a few years ago the owners built a new, detached house within its grounds which has now also been flattened.

It is just so very sad that such a lovely building will be replaced by yet another soulless block of flats all in the name of profit.

Can anyone explain the justification for this legalised vandalism?
