Worthing manager Alan Pook took another look at former Crawley midfielder Mark Hawthorne in last night's friendly with Albion.
Hawthorne has been trying to impress the Rebels boss since linking up with the club at the start of the season and did well after coming on as a substitute against Heybridge Swifts last Saturday.
The 30-year-old has plenty of experience, having made 134 League appearances for Torquay earlier in his career. He spent pre-season back at Crawley but was not taken on by Francis Vines.
Pook said: "Mark spent a big part of pre-season with Crawley but saw very little action.
"He has done some intensive training for two weeks and has lost a bit of weight. His attitude has been fantastic.
"He is obviously a quality player but he needs games under his belt."
Roy Pook made his first appearance of the season last night following summer eye surgery.
He could be added to the squad for tomorrow's match at home to Cheshunt when Stewart Holmes, Mark Pulling and Andy Alexander should also return.
Striker Sam Francis remains a big doubt for Saturday's game after missing Monday's 1-0 defeat to Hampton and Richmond with a jarred back while Owen Hill and Clay Lamont are also still out.
