I was disgusted to read there is to be a Safeway supermarket on the Quadrant site in Brighton.
The site is totally inappropriate for a supermarket. Waitrose is only ten minutes away and the new Sainsbury's will be very close.
I am a long term Brighton resident. I have seen the heart ripped out of the city when the old shops were demolished and Churchill Square was built.
The revamped version is okay. The Boots building is a reasonable piece of modern architecture on the site of the old cinema.
But the Quadrant site is crying out to be a focal point with some really good shops, not yet another awful supermarket.
What an image to give the visitors to this lovely vibrant city. It is enough to make me want to move.
