I was dismayed to read Safeway is to take over the Quadrant site for yet another supermarket.
Surely a big name store such as Ikea or Harvey Nicholls would be a better attraction for this prime site? An upmarket department store is a must. With the loss of Vokins and Hanningtons, we no longer have such a store.
Dozens of would-be customers travel to Croydon to buy at Ikea, notwithstanding that they do not deliver and goods bought have to be transported home by car or van. The design, quality and price make this worthwhile.
Harvey Nicholls was one of Princess Diana's favourite stores, a cachet of recommendation in itself. Need I say more?
