Unashamedly inspired by the new-wave punk stylings of Devo, Japan's Polysics do synthesized pop-rock like no-one else around today.
Frontman Hayashi, the brains behind the band, came up with their distinctive image and neu-new-wave sound, claiming that Devo's 'rebel spirit', geeky, unlikely appearance and imaginative grasp of cutting-edge technology are what he aspires to.
Using computer programming to augment the chaos of their music, Polysics have been on the circuit in Japan since the late Nineties.
They deliver intense yet catchy punk tracks with indecipherable names, such as Lookin' Lookin' Gaa, Kaja Kaja Goo, and Schizoid Vow!
Polysics Or Die!, a hand-picked best-of collection compiled by the band, hit the shops in the summer, providing an introduction to the band for those unfamiliar with their extensive back catalogue. In just five years, the band have released seven albums, countless singles, DVDs, compilations and tributes and have still managed to find time to tour Japan, the US and, earlier this year, the UK.
Claiming that UK audiences have been more accommodating than those in the US, Polysics have now returned for another stint on our shores.
The band appear onstage like robots in angular sunglasses and overalls, and Hayashi is famed for his antics, including stealing beer from audience members and climbing on to the shoulders of fans. The band's unique live performance and off-the-wall punk attitude should guarantee a night to remember.
