From the strong opening chords to the final song, The Open treated the audience to an astonishing performance.
An all-too-brief set of six songs from their debut album The Silent Hours left everyone desperate for more.
Each bittersweet song was infused with the emotion and power of Steven Bayley's voice.
The band erupted on to the stage with a confidence that was hard to resist and delivered opening number Bring Me Down with impact.
Starting off almost jauntily but then breaking into their trademark crescendo, the song built up into a beautiful noise that was almost overwhelming.
That's the thing about The Open, you can't help but groove to their guitar rock and lovely harmonies and then they blow you away.
Their second song, Close My Eyes, kept the audience hanging almost unbearably in the middle, before releasing them into the closing lyrics.
A highlight of the set was Forgotten, starting with an almost Pink Floyd-style echoey guitar but expanding into a beautiful wall of sound.
Such was his charisma as a frontman that Bayley kept all eyes drawn to him. His openness and depth of feeling were irresistible and the crowd were caught up in every note of his performance.
Mystical to the last, there was no between-songs banter for these lads from Liverpool as they went straight into every song and they left the stage at the end with a brief "ta-ra".
