Hastings star Peter Tadros exploded the myth that southern riders are not good hill-climbers by winning the Glossop Vclo hill-climb.
The event was held on the gruelling three-mile ascent of the 1,680ft Snake Pass in the Peak District and Tadros (In Gear) won the event by 22 seconds, a huge margin for a hillclimb.
His time of 13min.07sec was just four seconds outside the course record.
There was no climbs to speak of in the Sussex and Surrey VITA 25-mile event at Maresfield but Tadros was again a clear winner.
He clocked 53min.56sec while team-mate Paul Woodman was second in 56min.9sec.
Brighton's Mike Coyle (VC Etoile) was third (56min.46sec).
Matthew Green (Crawley CC) and George Thomas (In Gear), who qualified for the final of the national schools championship by finishing first and second in the South London heat, both rode well in the final.
It took place over a ten-mile course in Yorkshire and Green finished 12th in a field of 101 riders and Thomas was 18th.
Simon Smythe (PCA) won the Addiscombe CC ten-mile event at Holmwood (22min.2sec).
Dave Fletcher (Brighton Excelsior) was the first Sussex rider in eighth (24min.2sec) and Geoff Smith (Sussex Nomads) placed tenth (24min.12sec).
The veterans' handicap prize went to Ian Landless, of Lewes Wanderers, who clocked 26min.11sec and beat his target time by 4min.11sec.
Brighton Mitre's open 25 at Steyning on October 24 will be followed by a lunch to celebrate the club's 110th year in the sport.
Frank Blake (01273 885332) would like to hear from former members, especially club champions, who have lost touch with the club.
