Why was there a need to increase parking charges?
There are other ways of saving or making money. Here are a few.
Why are individual boxes painted on the road for car parking? Why not just mark the start and finish of the area?
While walking along the beach, I noticed a line of eight cars with large spaces between them and wondered why.
When I looked closer, I saw they were all small cars each parked in its own large box with an average of six feet between them. If there were no boxes you could have parked several more cars there.
Also, along the beach around the bandstand, why are all the huts/shelters bricked up? I think I counted about 70 in all.
If these were let at only £10 per week, that's £700 per week (£36,400 per year). This is all wasted/dead money. If they are closed due to "future development", why couldn't they have been let on short leases until the work is decided/done?
They could be let for storage, like an extra shed for people's belongings, or for small art/craft studios/workshops. I for one would love one as I enjoy making things.
Finally, the closed toilets could be brought back into use. There is a mobile toilet down by the West Pier, right outside a disused one. Why?
I don't know if it is being rented, but if it is would the money not be better spent doing up the old one?
These may not be ground-breaking ideas that would bring in millions but certainly £100,000 per year.
