Now that the hoo-hah has subsided, I would like to say a few words about Pride.
One's enthusiasm for gays to be recognised can result in overlooking the irritating aspect of the event.
First of all, people ask: "Why should they want to have a parade because of their particular sexual preference?"
Secondly, if it is so necessary, why the explosive hype and the irritating noise? I think they would be taken more seriously if they were less abandoned.
I sympathise with the disabled lady who found it all too much.
This year I kept well away because in 2003 I was deafened before I was halfway down New England Street and was unable to do my shopping.
I am not sure I understand about gays being proud of their sexuality. However, one writer correctly referred to what homosexuals have contributed to cultural life.
I say to the environmental authorities: For heaven's sake, put an embargo on the amount of decibels screaming from the floats and the inconvenience of the show is something which should be sensibly examined.
