Burgess Hill fans responded to manager Gary Croydon's appeals to get behind the team but they weren't enough to prevent Hillians slipping to defeat against strugglers Croydon.

Croydon said: "I called for more support and people responded as we had a gate of about 250 but we let them down.

"We seem to be playing one good game, one bad game and struggling for consistency. It has left me scratching my head but that's football - up one minute, down the next."

An individual error by Lloyd Cotton gifted the visitors the winner.
