Shoppers surfing the internet spent an average of £770 each last year on goods and services.
A survey says almost half of those polled had bought a holiday, flight or hotel stay.
Close behind were CDs and other forms of music bought by 45 per cent.
More than a third of the 2,021 adults questioned had splashed out on clothes or shoes online in the past year and 34 per cent had bought electrical items such as a TV or DVD player.
The number of people shopping on the internet has risen dramatically, according to the survey commissioned by Alliance & Leicester.
Some 87 per cent of those polled said they used the internet to make purchases far more than five years ago.
