I have the greatest admiration for Dick Knight for the work and financial risks he has taken with Brighton and Hove Albion and every supporter owes a debt to him. Long may he continue as chairman.
However, while his motives are good, I think it is wrong to ask Brighton fans to give £100 to the club when they already pay season tickets and entry fees and buy memorabilia.
If shareholders can't provide the funds the company needs, Dick should pass ownership of the Albion to the fans - I have no doubt the fans would follow and would love him to stay as chairman.
Football clubs belong to the local community. Brighton has its problems today because the previous ground was owned by a few individuals and sold separately from the club.
I fear history will repeat itself unless we can change ownership of the club and also own the ground - giving £100 is not the long-term answer.
Come on, Dick, issue a prospectus and get the fans to buy shares and make the club a professional business. Let them have ownership of the club and the new ground.
Paying this £100 could be a disaster.
