Mrs Gill and Mrs Page (Letters, September 18) both live in the same area as I do, so I would like to place some perspective on their comments.

Mrs Page claims traffic congestion through Rottingdean will be ten times worse with a stadium at Falmer. She also refers to other activities that may take place at the stadium.

The business plan that supports the stadium development does allow for other limited activities which would be strictly controlled but to claim these would be unsupported by the sustainable transport initiatives or that the limited number of on-site parking spaces will somehow cause a 1000 per cent increase in traffic just doesn't add up.

If a stadium was built at Toad's Hole or Waterhall (neither have a station nearby), I would be likely to drive to it via the Falmer Road. But the station at Falmer, limited on-site parking and park-and-ride sites will encourage me to travel there using public transport.

Mrs Gill, who lives in East Saltdean, talks about residents having a right to an opinion.

She is correct. The nearest significant population to the stadium site, in Moulsecoomb and Coldean, voted overwhelmingly in favour of the stadium in the 1999 referendum.

Mrs Gill feels the stadium would be in her backyard. If Saltdean is deemed that close to Falmer, I am a YIMBY - Yes In My Backyard.
