On Monday, I caught the bus (£2.50, cheap at half the price) to one of our last remaining post offices.
Nice place but nowadays they try to sell you loans, car insurance, travel insurance, foreign exchange. They still let you post a letter but not for much longer, I understand. No money in it.
Anyway, out of the post office I come and, there in Duke Street, blow me, never seen so many in my life. Big Jags, shiny ones and all with chauffeurs. I was so knocked back I forgot to look if they were parked on double yellow lines.
Apparently, there are some rich, powerful folk staying round the corner at the Grand and I suppose they came up here for a bite to eat.
Nice life if you can get it. But it's not sustainable is it? I reckon New Labour has got it right. You can't have people driving short distances around city centres and expecting to park as they please, can you?
I mean, these aren't even small cars. They must pollute like anything. So I think those rich and powerful folk down at The Grand are on their way out of our city and I don't think they'll be coming back, do you, not if New Labour has its way?
