I returned home recently to find a group of people had forced entry and, along with their belongings, were occupying every room. I called the police who made several arrests.
The detainees were held in custody for 30 hours before being released on bail - not for breaking into my home, causing damage and stealing, but on suspicion they might be terrorists.
The police officer in charge said I would be contacted that evening to be given an update.
My concern after these people were removed was to have their grubby belongings removed as well.
I received no call from the police that evening. It was not until 7pm the following day the police telephoned me after releasing the detainees on bail charged with nothing.
The purpose of the police calling me was to ask when it would be convenient for these people to collect their belongings.
Uncertain when I could arrange this, I asked the police to telephone and speak with me the next day to make some firm arrangements. They did not call again that day, or the next.
Five days after the arrests, "forced entry" was again made to my home by, I assume, the individuals released on bail as all their belongings were removed. Police response, as far as I know, was to take no action against the prime suspects.
I have just received a police leaflet that claims, among other things, that "burglary remains one of our top priorities".
