Sussex may look overseas to replace fast bowler Mohammad Akram.

The 32-year-old has been released halfway through his two-year contract for personal reasons.

Akram, who took 43 Championship wickets, has struggled commuting from his London home since his wife gave birth to their second child back in May.

If, as seems likely, Murray Goodwin returns to Hove as a Kolpak registration, it will give the county the opportunity to sign a second overseas player to beef up their bowling attack.

Director of cricket Peter Moores said: "We have already got the feelers out and are weighing up our options but a second overseas bowler is one of the possibilities although we have to look at all sorts of things such as availability and finance."
