I am a teacher at East Brighton College of Media Arts, the Whitehawk secondary school which is due to close next summer.
I have started filming short talking heads titbits in my lessons and wondered whether the idea of a video diary documenting this closure year might interest a local filmmaker (possibly with the motive of passing it on to The Slot or Video Nation).
The school is undergoing unique circumstances and we have some extremely articulate students who would shine in such an enterprise.
I think the underlying political and social complexities would prove fascinating and enlightening for a wider audience.
The students are desperate for a voice. They are passionate, charming, disarmingly good-humoured and stoical about their fate. They are looking for a sympathetic filmmaker to document this unique year and the death of their school. Please call or email me at the addresses below if you are interested in this project.
