Brighton and Hove Albion supporter Norman Cook wants to cut a deal with John Prescott: "Give us our stadium and you can use my music."

The superstar DJ, alias Fatboy Slim, was miffed when Labour used his track Right Here, Right Now at last week's party conference in the city.

Norman, who lives with wife Zoe Ball and son Woody in Hove, made the offer on Saturday as Withdean Stadium was renamed Palookaville for the day to coincide with the launch of his album of the same name, which goes on sale today.

Tracks from the album were played before the match with Sheffield United and the players wore a new Palookaville strip for the occasion.

Norman rolled into the ground in a specially-painted battered camper van.

Speaking at pitchside before the match, Norman, a director at the club, said: "I wasn't unhappy with Labour using the track, I just wish they had asked me.

"If they had I would have said, 'by all means, but give us Falmer in return'. I think that's fair."

He said: "Half of today is about promotion for the album and half of it is to remind our friends from the Labour Party, who have been visiting us this week, about how much we need Falmer."

Palookaville is American slang for a place for bums and Norman says the comparison with Withdean are obvious.

He said: "With respect, the stadium we are in now is Palookaville. It's Limboville and the longer it goes on the worse it gets. I wasn't thinking about the club when I named the album. You could say it was a flookaville."

Norman never thought in his wildest dreams he would one day be a club director when he moved to Brighton.

His links with the club are all the more surprising considering he was once a fan of the Seagulls' hated arch rivals, Crystal Palace.

He reluctantly admitted: "I grew up in Redhill in Surrey so I used to watch Palace but I don't like to talk about that too loudly. But I stood on the terraces at the Goldstone Ground and have followed the club over the years and grown to love it.

"To stand here with my new album playing and the players wearing a shirt with my album on is very special."

Asked how badly the city needs John Prescott to say yes to Falmer, he said: "I don't think the club will survive without it.

"We've been lucky with players like Bobby Zamora and Leon Knight in recent years but we haven't got the money to buy quality players.

"We've been in serious financial trouble since Bill Archer and David Bellotti sold the Goldstone Ground seven years ago and we've managed to struggle through. But with 6,000 fans a week we can't compete financially."

Norman said he was too superstitious to predict what John Prescott's Falmer verdict would be.

There's no wonder he was hedging his bets if his football predictions are anything to go by.

He thought Albion would win 2-1 on Saturday but the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
