Paul Reid today revealed his determination to hold on to the rightback role in Albion's first team.
The Australian, better known as a central midfielder, provided emergency cover for the injury-hit Seagulls in last Saturdays 1-1 home draw against Sheffield United.
Now Reid is keen to keep his place for the visit to Crewe a week on Saturday.
"It was certainly a bit of a surprise, but where ever I get picked Ill play," said the former Bradford City utility man. "If I am playing rightback I'm happy.
"I was nervous in the first ten minutes, because I have played in that position for the reserves before but not in the first team.
"I thought I got myself into the game after that and it went a lot better in the second half.
"We will just have to wait and see now. I hope I have shown that I can play there and that it will stand me in good stead for the next game, because the midfield is quite secure at the moment."
Reid, 25, had not featured in the first team since he was hauled off at half time during the home defeat by Plymouth on August 10.
"I played in the first two games of the season, then hadn't been involved until last Saturday," he said. "It's been very difficult, probably more difficult mentally.
"It's probably the hardest thing in football when you get dropped to get back into the team. I've been doing extra work and I felt very fit on Saturday. Hopefully I can just stay in the team now."
