I own and use a buggy because I have a pair of legs which turn to jelly without warning.
I often travel in the roadway because the state of the pavements is generally very bad.
I tell my motoring friends my buggy is no wider than a bicycle and certainly shorter than most. It is well lit with a bright rear light and flasher. I am fully insured and believe I am a better driver than many of those driving cars.
As for pedestrians using the pavements and pathways:
1, Eight out of ten walk on the right-hand side, which is daft in a country which drives on the left. They would be facing the oncoming traffic and know when it is safe to step off the kerb to dodge puddles.
2, They have no stop lights or indicators, so suddenly stop, relying on a buggy or pram pusher to avoid them.
When you are overtaking them, they suddenly turn right into your path.
If it wasn't for my "dead man's lever", I would have had many victims.
3, Many pedestrians use the "dropped curbs". They have a pair of legs so why don't they use them and step down a kerb? We can't.
4, They barge out of shop doorways without looking - as much a danger to us as them.
How I have managed to avoid the many possible accidents surprises me, so maybe there is such a thing as luck.
