The decision by eb4u not to continue to grant aid to Haven One Stop
welfare rights and advice service (The Argus, October 3) is truly astounding.
Apparently the provision of such services to 2,000 of the poorest and most disadvantaged sections of East Brighton has nothing to do with regeneration.
If eb4u was to do a cost benefit analysis and compare the £220,000 of continuing the service with the additional benefits gained as a result of the advice given, it is difficult to believe that the grant would not be more than outweighed by the benefit to the local economy.
Maybe eb4u would consider applying the same logic to some other parts of its operation? What regeneration benefits does its public relations team provide for £250,000?
Or the bloated eb4u bureaucracy for that matter? It is somewhat ironic that the cost of designing eb4u's logo cost nearly as much as Haven One Stop's service.
Eb4u has long pretended its operation is under the democratic control of the local community.
Maybe it could put its money where its mouth is and hold a community-wide ballot as to whether people believe eb4u's press operation or Haven's welfare rights service should be cut?
