Adam Virgo, Albion's shock top scorer, could soon become Adam McVirgo.

Manager Mark McGhee has recommended Virgo to Scotland, The Argus can reveal today.

Virgo qualifies for Berti Vogts' struggling side because he has a Scottish grandmother.

McGhee, who won four Scottish caps, believes the Seagulls' young defender turned centre forward is good enough to do a job for his country in either position.

Brighton-born Virgo has scored four in 11 games for Albion, three of them since McGhee moved him up front.

The 21-year-old's goals at Leicester, Watford and Nottingham Forest landed him the PFA Fans' Player of the Month award for the Championship.

Virgo's potential rise to international stardom follows the inclusion of Adam Hinshelwood and Dan Harding in the England under- 21 squad to face Wales at Blackburn tonight and Azerbaijan in another European Championship qualifier next Tuesday.

McGhee is confident of completing the permanent signing next week of another of Albion's young internationals, Alexis Nicolas.

McGhee and chairman Dick Knight have finalised an offer to the on-loan Chelsea midfielder, currently with the Cyprus under-21s for their home game against France next Tuesday.

"It's looking good," McGhee said.

"I've not been in a position to put the deal to Alexis yet because he is away, but I think he will be happy. As soon as he gets back I hope to resolve it."
