Charlie MacDonald came off the bench to score twice as Crawley came from behind to beat Hailsham 5-1.

The Reds made eight changes to the side which beat Farnborough 3-2 on Saturday.

Boss Francis Vines gave a debut to youth team keeper James Plumley while Ryan Palmer, Charlie Mapes, Simon Wormull, Dan Platel, Dan Marney and Danny Davidson all returned to the starting line-up and captain Ian Simpemba was back from suspension.

Hailsham took a surprise lead with virtually their first attack when the impressive Scott French scored in the 15th minute.

The goal galvanised Crawley into action and MacDonald, who had replaced the injured Marney up front, dashed into the box and slammed home an equaliser after 24 minutes.

Twelve minutes later MacDonald showed great control to tap in a ball from Wormull from close range for his 11th goal of the season to give Crawley the lead.

Seven minutes after the restart it became 3-0 as Mapes put Neil Jenkins clear to rifle a powerful strike into the roof of the net from 20 yards.

Mapes then added the fourth with his first goal since August.

Vines brought on two trialists for the last half hour in the shape of Frenchman Fouahde Belaid, who began the season at Farnborough, and Rochdale midfielder Ashley Probets.

Davidson stabbed home a fifth in the 80th minute.

The visitors finished with ten men after French was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Meanwhile, Kevin Hemsley has returned to Crawley after Sutton decided against extending his loan deal.
