I am writing to you in respect of Braypool sports field.
I understand this is one of two potential sites chosen by Brighton and Hove City Council for a park-and-ride scheme.
This field is next to the Patcham RSPCA Shelter and is used by it to walk their dogs and as a place where potential adopters can be introduced to the dogs.
Disabled people also use this field to walk the dogs and gain great pleasure from this activity.
The open day is held here and is the one event which raises most money for the shelter and is vital for its survival.
If this field is chosen by the council, all these activities will cease and, in a worst-case scenario, may cause the shelter to be closed or curtail its good works.
There will be less re-homing, as adopters will be put off, and there will be no place for exercise and no pleasure for those disabled helpers either.
The RSPCA does a great job with these poor animals which, through no fault of their own, have been badly treated or left homeless.
It would be a tragedy to let this scheme go ahead. Perhaps the council will consider these points before making a final decision.
