"I'm not musical at all," says lead Art Brut man Eddie Argos.
"Actually, I'm the sort of person who could sing Happy Birthday and have all the neighbourhood dogs howling along. I can't sing, and I can't stay in time either."
But such tuneless tendencies did not stop Eddie from drunkenly stumbling round a party in Camden a couple of years ago begging people to be in a band with him.
The vocalist, whose specialises in a flippant, conversational style of vocal rant, was desperate to be in a group so he could be on Top Of The Pops.
Guitarist Chris Chinchilla was the only one who said yes.
Six months on and they had recruited some fellow art-wave drop-outs and self-released a series of cheaply produced CD-Rs of their unpredictable, chaotic indie punk.
Rough Trade got interested and soon they released Formed A Band, a debut single which was apparently written five minutes after they met. Scratchy, bolshy and confrontational, the witty novelty tune featured rolling guitar squalls and attracted some fancy reviews.
And now they're new talents to look out for.
