Eastbourne have been guaranteed a fair deal in their battle to clinch a promotion play-off spot.

The Hampden Park men need champions Dunstonian to beat second-placed Lordswood next Saturday to have a chance of going up from London Four South East.

Victory at Betteshanger would then clinch second spot for Eastbourne, who beat fast-fading Bromley 20-8 at the weekend.

Director of rugby Tony Welford is convinced Eastbourne can do it and has been assured Dunstonian will not be slacking in their game.

Welford said: "I know the Dunstonian coach Gavin Lach and he has promised me they are not going to send out a second team or take the game lightly.

"They have won all 17 games so far and they want to go out in style. I think we've got ourselves organised. We've got a few guys back from injury, particularly up front, and our forwards dominated on Saturday.

"I was happy with it, especially as we've been struggling."

Adam Tennant, Matt Thompson and Nathan Ring scored tries, with Ring adding a conversion and a penalty.

Betteshanger are now out of the promotion running, despite a 20-15 win at East Grinstead, which could also help Eastbourne.

Hove No. 10 Andy Phillips, back from a spell playing in Texas, revelled in the Sussex sunshine as his team all but assured safety.

Phillips scored two tries and added a penalty and three conversions as Hove won 44-3 at Crawley.

Hove finish the season at home to East Grinstead knowing even a 27-point defeat will keep them up.

The win could save Gs, though, as they are currently a point behind Bromley.

Hove skipper Carl Pittaway admitted Saturday's trip to Willoughby Fields was a must-win game.

The man from Texas was not Hove's lone star as they came from 3-0 down. They also had scores from James Finlason (2), lock-turned-wing Jason Ellison (2) and the captain.
