Reading about Mavis Bishop, I wonder why this lady is still in hospital.
She has sons. Have they no families? Surely they can have her at home and take care of her?
Surely a rota could be set up with a little outside help from the community nurse and home help if necessary, even for a few hours.
Peacehaven has a good community spirit. Age Concern do lunches daily - has there been any approach in this direction?
Does she really require nursing home facilities? I am 82 years old, not in the best of health and have frequently been an in-patient but have insisted on only being in hospital one or two nights.
While my treatment and care have been the best, there is nothing like the privacy of one's own bed, the complete use of your own bathroom, having a good cuppa and the enjoyment of neighbours popping in. We are a retired, elderly community but we all help one another.
I have nursed for years but it is only these past few years I find people hanging on in hospital. Why?
Go into clubs or any church. There you will find help and care.
So much is available. Smile at another person and you will receive one back. Say good morning and the greeting is returned.
So, to the sons, your mum cared for you, now care for her.
The cost and the time it takes will be small if you share the work between you.
There is a good transport system run by Lewes District Council.
There are many items which can be hired to help people with limited mobility - just inquire and the Age Concern club is near the police station and doctor's surgery.
All the best from a fellow disabled old lady who likes her freedom.
