A motorcyclist smashed through a windscreen and ended up trapped inside the car with the woman driver.
Paramedics gave the 31-year-old rider and the woman driver, in her 40s, painkilling drugs while firefighters cut away the car roof.
The woman suffered a suspected broken nose, cuts and neck injuries as the rider and windscreen crashed in on to her.
The motorbike rider sustained serious leg injuries.
He was knocked out by the impact but regained consciousness as rescuers arrived.
Both were taken by ambulance to Worthing Hospital, where they were said to be in stable condition.
The accident happened in Wick Farm Road, Littlehampton, shortly after 1.30pm yesterday.
Police are investigating the cause.
