As Secretary of the Clarendon and Ellen Residents' Association, I attend Clarendon Local Action Team meetings and, with the police, YMCA, residents, council officers and two councillors, try to identify local needs and solutions to improve quality of life for all - including our teenagers.
At an early meeting, the growing problem of young teenagers with nowhere to go to socialise or occupy themselves, other than on the streets, was raised.
They are bored, disenfranchised and offered nothing compared with what is being thrown at young mothers and toddlers who can get down to some "baby boogie" or "rhythm and rhyme" sessions at Hove Library, dump their charges
at one of a snowballing number of nurseries and playgroups being provided or "identified" as being "a need for nursery provision in this area".
They come to endless planning committee meetings and never get turned down.
What about "identifying" a "need for teenager provision" for a change?
The redundant Hove Park Rugby Clubhouse would better serve overall need if it went to them.
