I refer to the story headlined "Ex-Tory MP backs Flight" (The Argus, March 31).

So we now have another ex-Tory MP extolling the virtues of Mr Flight.

We hear he was a very successful man with his eye on becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer. But, please, successful men do not malign their own firm or party.

Mr Flight must have known what the consequences would be if he implied public spending cuts would go much further than the party had stated. He is the instigator of his own downfall, so one should not allow sentiment into this issue.

Mr Flight has been replaced with a suitable candidate and there the matter should rest.
