It's been five years since the release of Emiliana Torrini's critically acclaimed album, Love in The Time of Science. Since then the 27-year-old half-Icelandic, half-Italian singer has moved to Brighton, joined the cast of Lord of The Rings (to perform Gollum's Song) and written a number one hit for pop goddess Kylie. This Brighton-based band take time out from finishing their third album, Amber to play a one-off hometown gig. The four piece of Jason Pegg, Sam Hewitt, David Woodward and Toby May was initially conceived after Sam and Jason met at art college, and their lush guitar sound has found them considerable succes in America. Music from Mesopotamia, Komedia, Gardner Street, Brighton, Thursday
Mesopotamia is the oldest-known civilization and this area of the world, watered by the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, is rich in spiritual tradition and mythology. This collection of Kurdish and Turkish folk music explores the mystical qualities of the area with a contemporary edge.
