Purists may tut at this Disney corruption of AA Milnes classic but the kids will be bounding about like Tigger.
Winnie The Pooh and its sequel, The House At Pooh Corner, were originally published in the Twenties with evocative black and white illustrations by Ernest H Shepard.
In 1966 the animals from the Hundred Acre Wood got the Disney treatment with the animation Winnie The Pooh And The Honey Tree and EH Shepard screamed travesty. Yet box office sales were good and many theatrical featurettes and TV series followed.
Now there is a stage version with bright, soft costumes designed by a team of Broadway veterans. It tells the tale of how the cute friends create a surprise birthday party for Pooh while the tubby one encounters bees, adventure and friendship in his quest for a simple smackeral of honey.
