I am on the parish council of St Peter's Church and have the architect's report about the state of the building to hand.
The two million repair bill is incorrect. The state of the building is not as bad as it seems and it would take only £750,000 over the next ten years to ensure the building stays in good repair.
We have been discussing the use of the building for wider community service while retaining a space within it for worship.
What has surprised us at the church is the abandonment of this idea by the diocese.
This is one of the great pieces of architecture in our city, the work of Charles Barry who went on to design the Houses of Parliament. We must not let it become another West Pier.
