Rye and Iden's chances of finishing runners-up to new champions Horsham YMCA were boosted by a routine 4-0 home win over relegated Sidlesham.
And there was more good news for Glyn White's men when nearest rivals Whitehawk dropped points at East Grinstead.
Goals from Shaun Loft, Adie Olorunda, Duncan McArthur and Micky O'Callaghan gave Rye a routine win.
White, who is leaving at the end of the season, said: "There is a lot of motivation to finish second because this squad won't be together next year so it would be nice to finish as high as possible."
Hawks trail Rye by four points but they do have two games in hand.
Andy Beech gave them an early lead at East Court, but Adam Dart quickly levelled from a free-kick.
Hawks' boss Ian Chapman said: "We had a lot of possession but didn't create many chances. A draw was a fair result.
"If we win our last five games we will finish second and I feel we are capable of doing that."
It was a good point for lowly Grinstead on a day of mixed fortunes for the relegation strugglers.
Pagham are on the brink after losing 4-0 at Sidley for whom Kevin Rose scored a hat-trick in a welcome win.
Redhill are virtually safe after an eye-catching 3-1 success at fourth-placed Littlehampton. Geoff Clark, Luke Jones and Michael Morgan were their marksmen as boss Mark Endsleigh's change of tactics paid dividends.
He said: "We got our wide players to push much further on and we got lots of shots on target. If we had scored five or six it wouldn't have flattered us."
Hailsham are more or less safe as well but their 2-1 win over Chichester has left last season's champions looking anxiously over their shoulders.
Leon Legge and Paul Richardson netted for Ken McCreadie's side before Roger Moore pulled one back in the second half.
Southwick are now in big danger of dropping into the bottom three. They lost 2-0 to two late goals from Pat Massaro at home to Three Bridges and only have two games left.
Crowborough clinched the second division title after drawing 2-2 at second-placed Wick.
