A new learning centre has been named in honour of a sisterhood of nuns who first set up a school.
Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Upper Drive, Hove, officially opened a new £250,000 learning centre at the school on Tuesday.
The two-storey building, designed by architects Morgan Carn, includes three interactive classrooms and a purpose-built learning centre, where pupils can access computers and the internet to help their studies.
The centre has been called the Sacre Coeur in honour of nuns from the Sacred Heart Order, who began teaching children at the site more than 100 years ago.
Sisters from the order attended the opening ceremony.
Other guests included staff and governors as well as headteachers from other local schools and representatives from the diocese.
Headteacher Peter Evans said: "The new term could not have begun with a greater celebration.
"A great deal of planning and hard work has come to fruition. However, the true guests of honour are the students.
"They are at the heart of the school's work and I am particularly pleased this exciting new facility will increase even further the opportunities given to them."
