I read with increasing amazement the letter from John Le Sueur who appears to take the view the car should be king and no other type of vehicle should be allowed on the roads.

He does not appreciate that, for many people, the car is not an option, either because people cannot afford to run a car or, for medical reasons, they are not able to drive.

He might not like the idea of our buses being subsidised out of his taxes but I do not like the idea of people living in our towns and cities becoming seriously affected by asthma and other illnesses related to the pollution emitted by endless cars.

To take John's last paragraph, why should main access routes be made bus-free? If this were done, people like me, who depend on public transport, would not be able to visit most of Sussex's towns and villages - nor will people be able to come from there to Brighton and Hove.
