I agree John Le Sueur's journey from his home in Lightwater, Surrey to visit Brighton is properly best made by car but to suggest we clear the city's main access routes of buses is extreme and self-defeating (Letters, 8 April).
As people who currently take the bus were forced to drive instead, thousands more cars would clog the roads .
This would hardly be a solution for the thriving Brighton Mr Le Sueur desires.
His suggestion to cancel bus subsidies would simply cause hardship for the one per cent of our passengers who currently use one of the handful of bus routes funded by Brighton and Hove City Council.
