Manager Gary Block pulled no punches after Pagham were relegated following a 3-0 defeat at Eastbourne United on Saturday.
Pagham will join already relegated Sidlesham in division two next season and Block, who took over two weeks after Gary Shaw's resignation in February, is not surprised.
"I said when we took over that I did not think we would stay up and we have got worse," admitted Block. "The chairman has said that my job is safe but I will have to think about that in the future. The squad we have needs strengthening as this current team probably would not do well in division two either."
United's Mark Warren, with a brace, and David Harris got the hosts' goals at The Oval.
East Grinstead, who fill the third relegation spot on 37 points, suffered a setback with a 3-1 defeat at Eastbourne Town.

Southwick, who have played a game more, are two points ahead of Wasps but a 2-1 defeat at Littlehampton keeps them in deep trouble. Mark McCallum and Steve Tabor struck for Littlehampton.
Chichester, on the same points as Wickers but with a game in hand, boosted their chances with a 0-0 draw at champions Horsham YMCA.
Chi manager Adie Girdler said: "We need the points and we're happy with a draw especially as a couple of other results went our way. We have Redhill away and Three Bridges to play so we will be looking to get something from the Redhill game next Saturday."
Sidley United gave eased their relegation worries when goals from Jimmy Watson and Callum Wooller produced a 2-0 win at Hailsham.
Joint-boss Dickie Day said: "I always thought it was going to be a tight finish but we have given ourselves a great chance and I think we will be okay, although, we need one more win."
