I read with interest Craig Johnson's thoughts in regard to the closure of many of our churches (Letters, April 11).
His last sentence - "We must not let it become another West Pier" - says it all.
I was talking about St Peter's Church but I wholeheartedly agree the closure should not become another West Pier.
My solution is to close all the threatened churches now, before another West Pier situation can develop. They have very few people attending. I know St Barnabas is like a ghost church and its vicarage houses two people when it could be home to many families. The church is not part of the community.
The sooner these churches are closed and sold off, the better.
The Church of England does not have the same status it used to have so one church for each parish should be quite sufficient.
