Danny Bloor has ruled himself out of a return to Burgess Hill.
The Worthing No. 2 has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Hillians manager Gary Croydon, who is stepping down at the end of the season.
Bloor led Burgess Hill to the County League title in 2003 but was then sacked as Croydon, a club director, installed himself as manager for their first season in the Dr Martens League.
Bloor said: "Worthing is my club now. I am a director and I run the side with Alan Pook.
"It is great at the Gladwish Stadium at the moment and I intend to be there for a long while yet."
Whitehawk manager Ian Chapman and current Burgess Hill No. 2 Chris White are believed to be the forerunners in the race to replace Croydon.
Former Albion defender Chapman has declined to comment on his situation.
Worthing visit Braintree Town tomorrow with Stewart Holmes returning from a one-match ban and Chris Dicker also back.
Former Albion midfielder Paul Rogers is doubtful with a calf injury.
Tom Smith and Ben Bowra, who were on the substitutes' bench for last week's draw with Hendon, retain their places in the squad and should be given an extended chance before the end of the season.
Holmes, Dicker and Shaun Grice have agreed new terms with the Rebels but are still waiting to sign contracts for next season.
Teenager Phil Elkins is poised to make his first start for Burgess Hill tomorrow when they visit Croydon Athletic in Ryman division one.
Gary Croydon said: "Although mathematically we still have a chance of the play-offs, it would take a series of ridiculous results.
"I am planning to bring in a few of the youth players who have done so well for us this season and Phil Elkins should start tomorrow.
"He has come on for us in the past and has done well so he deserves his chance."
Defender Sean Edwards, who came out of retirement to help out, is unavailable but striker Nicky Sullivan is now back from America after completing his pilot training and will play.
Hillians striker Steve Harper has been selected to play for an FA non-league XI against the Jersey FA on the Channel Island over the weekend of May 7/8.
