Three runners from Hastings had more reason to celebrate than most when they crossed the finish line of the London Marathon on Sunday.
Brian Kirkdale, Paul Cooper and Peter Wheeler had not just survived the 26.2 miles around the streets of the capital but had completed eight marathons in eight days.
The Hastings Runners trio's challenged started at the Paris Marathon last Sunday and came to an end 232.2 miles later when they reached The Mall.
Kirkdale was placed sixth overall out of the 13 who completed the Run Paris to London challenge with a total time of 34hr.39min.7sec followed by Wheeler in eighth (39hr.5min.28sec) and Cooper in 13th (41hr.47min.57sec). Colin Munro won in a time of 31hr.12min.43sec.
Despite already having run seven marathons in a week Kirkdale still managed an respectable time of 4hr.1min.6sec for the London Marathon. Wheeler clocked 4hr.18min.8sec and Cooper 4hr.55min.45sec.
