Albion manager Mark McGhee gave his goal-shy strikers a vote of confidence today as they prepare for Saturday's crucial relegation clash at Rotherham.

McGhee is likely to keep faith with a front partnership of Leon Knight and Chris McPhee for Saturday's trip to Millmoor, where a first win in ten matches could guarantee Championship survival if other results go the Seagulls' way.

Knight notched the last of his four goals this season at Sheffield United in mid-January.

Injury-plagued McPhee has not scored since Boxing Day 2003 but McGhee was satisfied with their performances in Saturday's 2-2 home draw against West Ham.

"I thought the front two did alright," he said.

"The two of them worked hard and it is important to recognise it is not West Ham we are playing now but a team already doomed to a lower division.

"We expect our strikers to be more effective against a lesser team and we expect a big game from Leon."

Mark McCammon is poised for a return to the squad as forward back-up following his half-time bust-up with McGhee in Albion's last away game at Burnley.

"I think we will probably need him on the bench on Saturday," McGhee said.

Captain Charlie Oatway should be fit after a dead leg contributed to him being substituted in the second half against the Hammers.

Meanwhile, Adam Virgo will sit out training again this week to protect the torn cartilage he sustained against Leicester three games ago.

"Virgo was a bit sore on Saturday night," McGhee said. "He's carrying it but we will do the same this week as we did last week and we expect him to be out there."

Central defender Joe Dolan, left out of the squad against West Ham, has extended his loan spell from Millwall until the end of the season.

McGhee and his staff were busy plotting and planning Albion's escape mission yesterday while the players enjoyed a day off.

Leicester's match in hand at home to Derby tonight has implications for the Seagulls' survival fight.

Defeat for the Foxes would keep them in the relegation mix, three points better off than Albion, but McGhee would prefer Derby to lose as they would then be desperate for a result at struggling Coventry on Saturday to cement a play-off place.
